I’ve been studying theology for about 3.5 years now, and I can totally relate to this. It’s been so much harder to soak in Scripture than it’s been to try and think about it with academic brain. I love the idea of engaging the imagination, which is something I feel like can get you into trouble in academic writing. I’m so thankful for my education but I can’t help but miss the days when it was all about the wonder.
Thank you, Griffin, and well said! I found my papers becoming brittle and withered without wonder. I was working so hard to make them academic that I was missing the beauty of the unexpected in scripture. This practice was helpful in reminding me how gloriously mysterious scripture stories must have felt to those experiencing it. Hope that it helps you too! And blessings on your studies!
Thanks for the kind words! 🥰
This is beautiful.
