Your grin bursts forth with giggles as juice of deep magenta runs down your chubby fingers,
Your mouth and hands are stained with the same gorgeous cherry shade,
Evidence of a snack thoroughly enjoyed.
We take turns picking out the perfect bite,
Nibbling around the pits as the stems tickle our noses.
//
We laugh and partake of this feast with abandon,
I watch with utter contentment as you munch and savor this treat.
I love your trust in abundance.
Your faith that He who grows the seeds will continue to provide enough.
//
Our sunny month of cherries will give way to smooth avocados, crunchy corn, and flawlessly tart raspberries.
You know that melon season approaches, so the passing of perfect tomatoes does not worry you.
To you, waving goodbye to a full basket of one only means making room for another harvest.
//
You live in a season of bounty.
Of joy and trust and ever-blooming hope in what comes next.
This has always been my prayer for you,
Trust in the roots of your faith,
Confidence in the seeds we cannot see,
And certainty in our hopes of ripe fruit.
//
May I too walk in this childlike joy,
Beaming through lips stained red with plenty,
Soaking in each moment,
Turning my face to the sun,
And trusting that in each season,
There is enough.

Beautiful, Alli! I especially loved the end!
“May I too walk in this childlike joy,
Beaming through lips stained red with plenty,
Soaking in each moment,
Turning my face to the sun,
And trusting that in each season,
There is enough.”
Amen, amen, amen.
I also love the part you wrote about learning from our children how to walk in childlike joy. I want that for myself and for my children who are now growing into adults and forgetting their carefree delight. I wrote a simple haiku with pictures of my oldest daughter for Independence Day. As she watches our country become more and more divided it has caused her to lose her joy. I pray for all our children that they will find their joy in knowing the love of their Creator and re-capture delight in expressing creativity. My daughter still has moments of childlike joy when she draws or paints. She created the Logo for my Substack for me. https://chandagriese.substack.com/p/the-future-of-america
